Update Thys, September 8th, 2018 :
For Thys will we do our utmost to find him a nice new home. He came to the Netherlands at the beginning of this year, where he was lovingly admitted into his new family. Thys is a real whopper and he is very dedicated to his family, for the five-year-old daughter is he very sweet. Still, are the current adopters asking with great sorrow to rehome Thys. Living in a busy neighborhood in Amsterdam, staying with a babysitter regularly, the busy social life of the adopters, Thys doesn’t flourish here. Despite training with expert help, has Thys become too protective towards his family and reacts too tense and uncertain towards visit. People he sees regularly sees are okay, but he has issues with strangers. The adopters can’t adequately guide Thys, they can’t provide him the stability and peace that he really needs.
For someone who is looking for an infinitely dear and devoted dog, who can also provide this big boy the necessary space where he can move around at will, where he doesn’t have to be alone for a long time and where aren’t too many outside stimuli, will get a top dog in Thys. For the rest we can only praise Thys : he is housebroken, he listens well (except when he is in his wakefulness modus), he can walk outside off leash, he interacts well in the park with other dogs and also behaves nicely in a restaurant or terrace. Given his size and behavior, does it seem wise not to place him with small children.
October 2017, from Fabienne’s diary : Thys’ story ...
Thys was the pet ??of a Spanish family that lived not far from a gypsy camp. ... When the father of the family got out of work, did they want to sell their dog Thys. ... All means to get money to survive were welcome and Thys was put up for sale. ... When his owner was on the market with a sign “for sale”, did the neighbours of the family watch the whole scene. ... A couple of gypsies negotiated with the father of the family. ... Thys was snatched away and had to go along with the gypsies who were known in the village for their dog fights. ... Thys would certainly be used for sparring. ... The neighbours and a friendly policeman were miraculously able to get the dog out just in time at the gypsies. ... They (the neighbours) took him home and kept him in their little apartment. ... The landlord, however, found out that Thys was being held there and asked his new owners to dispose of him immediately ... They were desperate. ... Thys already had already been through so much and now was he facing another threat. ... Since these people don’t have the means to move, have they asked our help to save Thys and take him out of this this lugubrious neighborhood. ... Thys is a good pet, very affectionate and very sweet, he deserves to find a permanent dog bed again somewhere, one that lasts for a lifetime ...
