As promised a report about sweet Sany. But first I want to thank some people I really admire.
Fabienne, Dirk and the whole SHIN team, all the people who work for the refugio, all those who go to Mijas to help.
I have visited many shelters but the ACE shelter is the best I know. You can eat off the floor and the dogs are very well looked after. A big congratulation from me.
As you know Sany couldn’t fly and then I drove to Spain myself to collect him with my Carina, my 27 year old Toyota. Everyone thought I was crazy but I know her and had faith in her, despite the fact that a spark plug exploded during the trip (Carina was not to blame!).
Thank you Dirk for all the work you have done.
My first meeting with Sany was just wonderful, like he knew. He came into my arms a bit awkwardly. Every day I went to visit him and then he was waiting for me at the gate. But on Friday I had to collect the plugs, 30 km far and then back. Dirk fixed everything then.
I drove to the refugio at one o’clock to collect Sany but I didn’t see him! Sarah Miller said that Sany had been waiting for me at the gate until noon and then went back to his cage. I felt a bit guilty.
There he was, the big, old bear. I took off his old collar from the refugio and he got his new collar, now he was really my new friend for life.
Friday afternoon, after an exuberant farewell, we left for Belgium. I regularly stopped to let him out of the car and to let him drink. He looked at me the whole time and didn’t sleep. At 4 o’clock in the morning we took a 2 hour break and then drove on. It was around 9 o’clock in the morning when I stopped to give him his medication. Afterwards he was lying on his side and went to sleep, beautiful to see. He then slept for 8 hours and woke up when we were at the Belgium border, he looked like he wanted to say: what am I doing here?
We were home at 6 o’clock in the evening and Gendarme (Ingrid) was waiting impatiently. I heart Bebe Antoine, Balou and Alaska bark. The meeting went very well, Sany was accepted immediately, even by Alaska. She has respect for him.
Sany went to explore everywhere, peed at everything and then came back inside.
Finally he has the home that he deserves, after 10 years of terrible misery.
Sany had to undergo 2256 km and 29 hours of driving and he did it well so now we go for it.
So you see I am not that crazy to make this trip with Toyota Carina, 27 years old.
I wasn’t looking forward to drive so far but it has certainly been worth the trouble!
It was little effort for the friendship and love of Sany.
Welcome home sweet Sany.
